Ta-Nehisi Coates Needs An Editor, Says Editor Who Edited Like One Blog Post In 18 Months
Earlier this week, Atlantic writer Ta-Nehisi Coates published an enormous study of mass incarceration and its impact on African-American families in America today. The article is comprehensive, exhaustive, compellingly written, and reaches back into centuries of American oppression to come to the conclusion that the American prison system was engineered as a modern replacement for older, more blatant forms of racial segregation and exploitation. It is essentially an irrefutable document—irrefutable, that is, unless you are failed Undefeated editor Jason Whitlock, and you are collecting (we’re told) a hair under seven figures annually to raid the pantry at ESPN and lob braindead Twitter bombs at Coates for his work.
OHHHHHH YEAH. That’s the stuff. Whitlock, who is now slowly ambling his way over to Fox so that can fulfill his destiny as co-host of All Takes Matter with Clay Travis, went on a Twitter screed against the respected Coates this morning, and it’s the subject of this week’s Deadcast.
But there’s more! We also talk about Mike Lupica getting laid off (this happened!), Terrence Howard’s math theories, JPP’s finger count, and much more. If you have anything you’d like to hear discussed on the podcast, just send it in to [email protected] with the subject line DEADCAST. You can listen to the show here or download it over at the iTunes store.
