thanks for bringing Holmgren in, TMC, because the fact of the matter is, if only baseball umps fuck up the world series, then we can have a triple crown of professional sporting championshps decided or excessively decided by officials. you think it is whining, but i would put money on it, if your team, whatever it is, is in a championship position and it loses and there are some VERY SHADY calls that fall against your team (and not the other) you are going to be one pissed off fan. you can say till you are blue in the face that teams make their own destiny by letting the officials get to them, and i would agree to a point, but god damn-- you seriously have to be blind and completely unaware of momentum and swings if you think that officials have no effect (or affect, for that matter) on the outcome of a game.

Holy Christ, I'm tired of hearing people put 100% of the focus in big games on the officials. Refs have always missed calls, refs have always favored superstars, and people have always made mistakes; why now do we have to turn every fucking important game into an excuse to excoriate the refs and to whine like 5 year olds who dropped their chipwiches in the dirt? Mavericks fans embarrassed themselves last night, booing every call, even the legit ones, whining because their doofus owner told them to, apparently throwing stuff on the floor, nd generally sounding as if they knew nothing about the game.

The Dirk foul was awful, but the refs gave the Mavs that awful loose ball nonexistent make-up foul within like 10 seconds. (The refs also called a Dirk foul or two on teammates to keep him in the game in the 4th.) Make-up fouls = shut up with the whining.

Spine-- if i remember correctly, in pickup games you call your own fouls. plus you take the ball up top instead of shooting FT's. So you lose the "hack a shaq" send him to the line, but you also lose the 8 kajillion Wade FT's. And in a pick up game, some of those fouls...if Wade called them himself, man... i don't know if you've ever played someplace like Venice Beach, but if you called what Wade got, dudes would argue for hours, kick the ball, and you would never actually finish a game. No... it wasn't the same as a pickup game. It takes officials to really F$&# up a sporting event.

Although I thought the officiating in Game 5 was heinous, I didn't think Game 6 was "that" bad. Yes the foul by Dirk was total BS, but by the position he was in (may have been b/c of the forearm shiver) I would have put 90% odds on D Wayde making the shot anyway - fastforward he misses his next 2 foul shots anyway. Next chapter, if the jersey tug had been called Terry would have shot 2 - he wasn't in the act of shooting during that foul.

I am gutted. Absolutely gutted. I have been a Mavs fan since the mid-80's when my grandparents brought me a Mavs t-shirt back from Florida (don't ask - I still don't understand why Goofy would not have sufficed for a pre-teen, especially one who wasn't into basketball at the time). It has been easy for me to continue to cheer for them, given that I live in the basketball hotbed of St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. So, I was never close enough to Dallas for their years of futility to really bum me out, and I wasn't overly prone to the fawning over the Lakers and Bulls in the late-80s, early-90s. But I am gutted now. We got JOBBED in Game 5. JOBBED. We win there, it's a whole different story in Game 6. And last night's game ... well, so much for the ref's giving all the calls to the hom eteam. RE: Dirk's 5th - how is it possible for the attacking player to give the defender a forearm to the chest, and the defender gets called for the foul? Explain this please? But at this point? I am just too ... I don't even know. I don't have the energy to be angry. I don't have the energy to call "bullshit" one mroe time. Gutted. I am gutted.

Wade is a superstar, no doubt. And the Mavs lost four in a row to a team they had routinely beaten in the regular season and playoffs, and that can't all be blamed on outside forces. STILL, as others here have said, that foul on Dirk with (I think) 24 seconds left was the worst call I've seen in years, and that's saying something in this league. Wade must have reached out a good two feet in order to throw his arm into Dirk's stomach, and Dirk gets called. Utterly, insanely ridiculous. I was on the fence about all the griping about refs until that moment. After all, Wade was very active in Game 5 -- unlike, say, Dirk -- and that was a big part of why he got to the line so much. But that call tonight in crunch time. Good god.
