Nearly lost in the hullaballoo (I've never used that word before, and I have no idea why I'm starting now) of the Chad Hedrick/Shani Davis post-race news conference yesterday, is the fact that members of the Dutch curling team showed up for the sole purpose of heckling Chad Hedrick. In turn, I suppose that probably makes Chad Hedrick a dutch hater. Izhn't that veird? Regardless of whose side you're taking in the Hedrick/Davis feud, I think you'd have to agree: When the Dutch curling team shows up to heckle someone, it is awesome.
From what I can gather here, Davis's mom made friends with a few of the Dutch curlers after she was kicked out of a post-race news conference a few days ago. And yesterday, Dutch curlers in tow, Cherie Davis came to the press conference wearing bright orange Holland gear.
Evidently, Davis is more popular in Holland than he is here, which makes sense, because until a few days ago, no one in America had any idea that Shani Davis existed. I guess they take their speedskating a little more seriously in Holland. And it's easy to see why they would be so quick to admire his speed and grace on the ice, as many of them find it difficult to accomplish such feats while wearing their wooden ice skates.

The best part about this story is the fact that the Dutch curlers didn't even qualify for the Olympics. They just came all the way to Italy to bust Hendrick's balls. That's some dedicated heckling. We could all learn a few things from the Dutch.

The guy is sponsored by a Dutch Bank and wears their logo on his uniform. No, I am not a speedskater or Shani's mom posing as average deadspin reader. There was an article on Davis in time magazine about a month ago.
"I'm unavailable." Awesome. When Davis says, "He only shakes my hand when I lose" He's right. Hedrick is a punk. Kudos to Shani and his nutjob mom for calling him out. And a posse of Dutch curling hecklers??? You can't make that shit up. This could be the best winter olympics ever.
Is it possible that Chad Hedrick is an asshole AND Shani Davis is selfish? It's like trying to decide whom root against in a Cowboys-Raiders game.

I never in a million years would have thought that I would take sides in a speed skating pissing match, but man... It's not that Shani Davis seems like a saind, but Chad Hedrick couldn't be much more of a dick, could he?

For the most part I've been ignoring these Olympics, though I've enjoyed reading about the Davis/Hendrick feud... but you're telling me that Melissa Stark is back on TV? Why didn't someone say so earlier! That fact alone deserves a post on Deadspin!
Hedrick, who is a major-league asshole, basically went from Wheatie's box to annoyance because he wouldn't smile and keep his mouth shut. He tried to dig at Davis in the media and was only successful at drawing a ton of negative press for himself. His agent probably wants to slap him in the face.
