So we were watching "Cold Pizza" this morning, waiting for Dana Jacobson to wave or wink or something, when Super Bowl legend Joe Montana and his wacky shirt showed up and started talking about high blood pressure. We thought this was a moment where he would discuss how scary playing in the Super Bowl is, how you have to be calm and make the right decisions.
But no. Montana was talking about actual high blood pressure, which he apparently has. More specifically, he was discussing Lotrel, a high blood pressure drug that Montana, not surprisingly, has an endorsement deal. At no point was this deal mentioned; the host (not Dana) just said, "How did you deal with the pressure of the Super Bowl?" and Montana said, essentially, "Lotrel!"
We know that the only reason anyone goes to the Super Bowl is to promote something ... but along with that ridiculous FedEx ad, is Montana, like, hurting for money right now or something?

All of the interviews this week turn into total buzzkills when you realize why the athletes/celebrities are sitting down to chat. The only entertainment value comes from the clunky segues, such as when Joe Theismann was interviewed this morning on Detroit radio. "Apathy's a big problem with the Detroit Lions right now. You know what's another problem, and why I'm here to talk today? Enlarged prostates." Coffee just doesn't taste good after that.
Up until now, I thought being editor of Deadspin would be a dream job. Now that I realize one of the job requirements is watching Cold Pizza, I feel much better about my lot in life.
He really does have no shame does he? Like when he announced that he was going upstairs to masturbate on SNL. Damn, thats the second time I posted about SNL today.
I always thought Joe's stutter step in the airport was funny. Then I read this from Peter King: "Hope you got a lot of money for that in-uniform FedEx commercial, Joe Montana, because you look absurd." But I blew that off because, well, it's Peter King. But now I'm wondering if my taste in humor is crap, or whether Will IS Peter King. Has anyone seen Will and Peter in the same place?
I wonder if guys like Peter King and Will ever considered that this isn't about money for Montana, that it's about something bigger, more visceral. Did we ever stop to think that maybe Joe Montana just really, really likes FedEx? That he's completely amazed and excited that he can send a package to his pals like The Bus and it can get there freakin' overnight? Or that he's overcome with joy and gratitude when he thinks about all the people that Lortrel has helped recover from whatever it is that people who ask their doctors about Lortrel suffer from? This isn't about cold hard cash people, this is about love. I think we can all learn a little something from Joe Montana this morning, don't you?
